This week's journal is all about Home.
In my homey kitchen: I am mostly focusing on variety, trying not to get into the "menu doldrums". It's harder than it should be really. I try to peruse recipes every so often and add new recipes to our repetoire!
My thoughts on being at home: I am ever so thankful that I do not need to earn a wage. It hasn't always been easy. There have been many times I have been tempted to be in the work force by the lure of "a little more" money. J. D. Rockefeller, when once asked how much money would be enough for him was quoted as saying, "Just a little more." Once I knew for sure God wanted me home it got alot easier to accept what came from His hand and go to Him if we needed more rather than trying to solve the problem myself. I knew where I belonged and it felt great! I appreciate being able to have a flexible schedule so that no matter my husband's work schedule we can spend time together. And being home for my kids is something I can never imagine regretting. I *KNOW* my kids, they *KNOW* me. I had the opportunity to homeschool them and we have climbed many a tough mountain together. They will take a large portion of me with them when they fly. It'll hurt like crazy because it's suppose to. I won't regret it. ever. It's worth it.
A constant habit I have of keeping my home comfortable is: I try to keep it fairly organized so we can find things, clean enough so we can have friends over, welcoming and warm so people want to be here, a loving place where all feel loved, a safe place where no one feels attacked, a peaceful place where strife is not tolerated, a forgiving place where restoration is common, a spiritual place where God resides, a laughing place where stress is relieved. I guard what is seen and heard so that it is not a place laden with guilt. Have I always been successful? No. But in aiming at these things, our home has overall been happy.
If I could change the decor in my home: Right now my living room most resembles my choice of decor. I am going for the look and feel of a vacation cottage. I like clean lines and colors that reflect light. I have a hard time finding those colors especially when it comes to curtains and the breezy material I want. I don't know if it is from living in Maine with our navy blues and deep greens or just that it is hard to find what I like. I don't really favor printed cloth, I don't like knick knacks or lots of stuff on the walls. I like things to look clean and fresh. I easily get clostrophobic if there is too much to look at.
What I want my children/spouse/other family to remember about my home is: I want them to feel it was safe, loving, joyful, fun, forgiving, welcoming, God honoring.
Home: The place I love best that is comfortable and that I want to share with others...homey...together...warm soup...a big hug... (a sappy mom, lol!)
Your Turn!!
