A Day Just Like This One

I love a day just like today. It started with an awesome service with church family. A wonderful time of worship, a sermon full of good news...
“See, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever
in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
and its people a joy.
I will rejoice over Jerusalem
and take delight in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying
will be heard in it no more."
Isaiah 65:17-19
It's a funny thing that hearing that someday they'll be no weeping made me weep...perhaps because it is so completely unimaginably awesome!
Following the service is a chance to chat with friends then lunch out (no cooking, no dishes), then home to a quiet afternoon.
My husband and middle son are off to son's soccer game. I would have liked to have gone but I stayed behind to wrap presents and then welcome them home with a homemade chicken soup. :)
And it turned out that a quiet afternoon was just what I needed. Time to work around my own little home, time to breathe, time to cook. I do love being home and I love working (puttering) around the house. And a little hot comfort food at the end of the day doesn't hurt either.

I used to make my own chicken stock. I still do once in awhile. But when I don't want to be that labor intensive, there's a store brand I love called "Nature's Place." It happens to be organic, but I love it because it doesn't have the "packaged flavor."

I chopped a few veggies (Have you ever tried boiling onions in soup? They're super yummy!),

I add chilled gravy and roasted chicken (roasted yesterday and chilled over night) and cook until the veggies are cooked (I like them cooked to death in my soup!). Oh, and I don't add the meat until the veggies are cooked so it doesn't break all up.

Wrapping presents, hot soup, a quiet house, old movies...bliss!

  1. I cried buckets of tears....but they were at the beginning of the service. Sam was sitting on my lap and finally looked at me and said "You are getting my hair wet!" Sorry little buddy!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment. :) It's just like opening the mailbox and seeing mail from a friend!
