We want to hope in a new candidate on an election year that we will vote in that he/she will be *the guy* or *the woman* who will *turn our nation around* in whatever way we have the necessary *turn around* defined in our minds.
Or, many friends of mine are concerned over leaders in other nations, because they are in the midst of an adoption and they realize that the leaders of that nation have what seems to be the final word on whether their children get to come home and when.
There's good news and bad news. Start with the bad news, you say?? You cannot hope in earthly leaders. Are you ready for the good news? You need not hope in earthly leaders!
This is the thought that came to me as I read Isaiah 40 today. The Lord God Almighty does not share His Throne with anyone. He is in complete and utter control. The rulers of this world hold no authority over Him.
"He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing. No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff." Isaiah 40:23-24
And following:
"To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings the starry host one by one, and call them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength not one of them is missing." Isaiah 40: 25-26
Can you trust God? Do you trust God?
"Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, 'My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God?'" Isaiah 40:27
Is your cause disregarded by God?
"Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:27-31
